North Yorkshire Council's latest Call for Sites has now closed, but the process of assessing and promoting land through the new North Yorkshire Local Plan is only beginning.

North Yorkshire Council reopened its Call for Sites for six weeks during May and June 2026 as part of the preparation of the first new North Yorkshire-wide Local Plan.
The Council has now published a map showing sites submitted up to and including 22 June 2026.
Importantly, publication on the map does not mean that a site has been accepted for development. The submitted sites have not yet been through the full assessment process and no allocation decisions have been made.
The Council will now assess the sites before consultation takes place later in the Local Plan process.
North Yorkshire Council will now examine the sites put forward and take advice from planning officers and specialist consultees before deciding which sites should progress further.
The submission enters the Council's Local Plan evidence base for consideration.

North Yorkshire Council invited sites for a broad range of uses and designations, reflecting the wide range of matters that the new Local Plan will need to address.
North Yorkshire Council was created in April 2023, bringing the former district and county council arrangements together into a single unitary authority.
The new North Yorkshire Local Plan will ultimately replace the existing legacy Local Plans and provide a single strategic planning framework for development across the Council area.
This makes the current plan-making process particularly important for landowners because the future settlement strategy and pattern of development are being reconsidered across a very large area.
Important: the new North Yorkshire Local Plan does not cover the North York Moors National Park or Yorkshire Dales National Park, which have separate Local Plan arrangements. Minerals and waste will also be dealt with through a separate plan.
